A farmer found a Russian aerial bomb weighing about 70 kilos on his field in the municipality of Neusiedl am See on Thursday. The man reported his surprise find to the police, who immediately informed the army’s mine clearance service.
While a farmer on the “Hutweide” was doing his daily fieldwork, he accidentally tripped over an aerial bomb. After the police arrived at the scene of discovery, they inspected the bomb and passed the matter on to the demining service of the Austrian armed forces. Because great caution was required, the fire brigade supported the police in the extensive cordoning off.
Russian bomb partially defused
The Russian war machine is 76 cm long and weighs about 70 kg. The special forces managed to partially defuse the bomb and, together with the police, brought it to the army training area in Hölles, Wiener Neustadt district.
