A 60-year-old was hit twice by bad luck during a walk on the Seespitz in Spital am Pyhrn on Saturday. First he was hit by a rock, then he fell 40 meters over steep terrain.
A 60-year-old from Roßleithen and a 44-year-old from Spital am Pyhrn left on Saturday morning for a hike to the 1,574-meter-high Seespitz in the Dead Mountains. They climbed an unmarked Jägersteig. They finally reached the summit around 9:00 am and marched back by the same route.
About 200 meters below the Seespitz summit, the 60-year-old was suddenly hit by a stone on the shoulder. The force of the impact was so severe that the man fell headfirst and then fell about 40 meters over steep rock and pine terrain.
Multiple fractures and wounds
His younger comrade, who had walked sideways behind him, immediately rushed to his aid and set the rescue chain in motion. The 60-year-old suffered a broken shoulder blade, broken ribs and a cut to the head in the accident. He had to be rescued by the ÖAMTC emergency medical helicopter Christophorus 14 via dew rescue and flown to Kirchdorf/Krems Hospital. It is still unclear why the stone fell on the walker.
