While most Carinthian households still have Christmas decorations hanging up, countless Easter items are already sold in one shop.
Customers could hardly believe their eyes when they entered the German discount store Tedi in early January: the shelves were filled with a wide variety of items for the still-distant Easter. It seems perfectly legitimate to ask a woman from Klagenfurt whether this is still normal. After all, the New Year has barely begun, the Three Kings are still moving from house to house – and in many houses the Christmas tree still decorates the living rooms.
“We do everything we can to get our products on sale as quickly as possible, so that our customers can benefit from new items and offers. We adapt to the purchasing behavior of consumers, who, as experience shows, make their purchases much earlier,” says Tedi.
Raimund Haberl, spokesperson for the WKO division, explains: “Each company decides for itself when to start selling. There are no guidelines.”
The redevelopment of the shops in the Südpark and City Arkaden shopping centers is still in preparation. “We let Christmas end at some point, then Carnival comes and only then Easter,” managers Heinz Achatz and Ernst Hofbauer agree.
