Fire brigades had to be called up twice on Sunday evening at Lake Ossiacher See in Carinthia: first, a car had to be recovered. The heavily intoxicated driver had strayed off the road. A fire had to be extinguished just a few hours later.
The first warning for the Ossiach, Bodensdorf, Steindorf and Feldkirchen fire brigades was already around 10 p.m. on Saturday: a Himmelberger (26) had come to the left shoulder in the Alt Ossiach area with his vehicle first and had damaged a road marking.
After that, the driver would have pulled the steering wheel to the right, left the road with the vehicle and crashed into a streetlight. The 26-year-old suffered minor injuries, but had to be freed from the wreckage by firefighters. An alcohol test on the man showed that he was heavily intoxicated.
Rescued neighbors in Bodensdorf
Only a few hours later, the second mission: a woman from Bodensdorf heard a smoke detector beeping loudly and then discovered a fire at her neighbors. An outbuilding caught fire, the woman woke up her neighbors (72 and 65). The Ossiach, Stindorf, Bodensdorf and Tiffen fire brigades were deployed with about 70 firefighters. The outbuilding and the swimming pool were badly damaged by the flames. Fortunately, the two residents were unharmed.
