The rescuers got stressed on Sunday: they had to fly out five times to save mountaineers. The worst hit was a hiker who fell five meters from the Almkogel in Mondsee and another hiker whose foot was hit by a stone the size of a child’s head at the Hoher Schrott in Ebensee.
A 34-year-old from the district of Gmunden descended around 11.15 am on Sunday through the Dielau, a large mountain valley in the area of the Hohe Schrott Mountains, towards Offenseestraße. Suddenly a rock the size of a toddler’s head broke loose above him and hit his left foot. Due to his injury, the 34-year-old was unable to descend and alerted the emergency services. He was flown to the Salzkammergut Klinikum Gmunden with an unspecified degree of injuries.
Fall due to broken mountain shoe
A 61-year-old Viennese and his 56-year-old partner from the Vöcklabruck district went for a walk to the Almkogel in Mondsee on Sunday. In the descent, the Wener slipped around 2.45 p.m. due to a broken mountain shoe. He fell five meters from a steep slope, crashed into a tree and was injured. After first aid by the mountain rescue service Mondsee, the 61-year-old was flown by the emergency helicopter team with the help of a rope rescue to the valley and to the LKH Salzburg.
“Schermbergler” ended up in the hospital
A 47-year-old ski tourer from the Kirchdorf district took part in the legendary Schermberg descent of the Welser Alpenverein on Sunday. After the event he skied on his touring skis to the Welser Hütte. At an altitude of about 2000 meters, he fell and injured himself indeterminately. He was still able to glide to the hut, but from there he was flown by emergency helicopter to the Salzkammergut clinic in Gmunden.
Woman notified mountain rescue
A 71-year-old man from the district of Gmunden was on his way from Hochsalm to Windhagkogel on Sunday. At an altitude of about 1100 meters, he fell several meters and injured himself indeterminately. He himself alerted his wife, who informed the mountain rescue service. The victim was then taken by helicopter to the Kirchdorf clinic.
