No one responsible – riddles about the disintegrating “ghost car” at Lake Wörthersee

Date:

A Hungarian car wreck has been raging for two years in the municipality of Velden am Wörthersee. Nobody feels responsible.

Cars that stay longer in parking spaces are not uncommon. But the car wreck in the tourist village of Velden has been falling apart for two years, not far from the center – right next to a provincial road. “The black Audi A3 with Hungarian number plates has been parked in a bus parking lot at the western entrance of Velden for two years now. The bumper has already fallen off,” says a resident.

Who is responsible for?
“That is not a picture for a tourist community”, not only residents complain. The municipality was only informed about the “ghost car” by the “Krone” and does not feel responsible. Reference is made to the national government, as the parking lot falls under the responsibility of the Road Maintenance Department.

The road maintenance department says: “As long as there is a license plate on the car, it is difficult to do anything. The police are responsible for that.”

Criminal proceedings or remnants of GTI meetings?
Only the police will be able to clarify the background: “But we can only take action if the owner of the property investigates or makes a report,” said Waltraud Dullingg, press spokeswoman for the Carinthian state police. “That’s how the owner can be found.” So why the Audi has been “parked” there for two years now remains a mystery. In any case, residents suspect that the wreck could be a remnant of a GTI meeting. However, a criminal case cannot be ruled out for the time being.
