Russia evacuates more than 1,500 residents of Zaporizhia due to heavy shelling

The Russian-mandated governor ordered the evacuation of the most vulnerable populations from 18 towns close to the frontline in view of intensified shelling by Ukrainian forces.

Russia has so far evacuated more than 1,500 vulnerable civilians from towns close to the frontline in the Zaporizhia region of southeastern Ukraine. due to the intensification of the bombing of the Ukrainian troops.

The Kremlin-imposed interim governor in this annexed province, Yevgueni Balitsky, announced last Friday, May 5, the evacuation of the most vulnerable population of 18 places. A total of 1,552 people have been relocated, including 632 minors, 145 patients in the psychoneurological center and 10 people with reduced mobility, who have already been displaced in an organized manner, Balitski reported.

Also, some citizens leave dangerous areas on their own in private vehicles.

As stated by the Deputy Prime Minister of Economy of the Annexed Region, Andrei Kozenko, some 70,000 civilians will be relocated, in an operation Kiev has described as a “forced” transfer.

Among the evacuated cities is energetic, where also the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant is located, the largest in Europe Tokmakan important communication hub in the center of Zaporizhia and where Russia fears an attack as part of the counter-offensive it is preparing.
