A 40-year-old surrendered on Friday evening in Amstetten/Kematen an der Ybbs (Lower Austria) without a driver’s license, but under the influence of drugs and alcohol in a 20-kilometer chase with the police. Shortly before the district of Niederhausleiten an der Ybbs, the fugitive was finally caught.
Before the spectacular chase started, the driver without a driver’s license first ignored a traffic control in Mauer, a sub-municipality of Amstetten. The 40-year-old then rammed into a police car, which was parked across the B21 as a roadblock. He then steered his car towards the officers, who could only save themselves by jumping aside. A man in uniform then shot towards the ground. He wanted to move the wheel to stop. Although two tires came off the rim, the wheel continued to move.
Drug and alcohol test positive
After this plan failed, the chase finally started and continued over the B122 and the L6204. Seven police patrols were involved in the hunt for the fugitive. On the sixth attempt, the vehicle ended 20 kilometers before the town of Niederhausleiten an der Ybbs, a sub-municipality of Kematen an der Ybbs. An alcohol and drug test turned up positive. The 40-year-old is reported to the public prosecutor of St. Pölten and the district authority.
