A long-eared owl that collided with the slow train was discovered on Sunday at five o’clock in the morning by an attentive train driver in Salzburg. The wild animal was injured on the tracks near St. Georgen. It had probably collided with the last train the previous night.
The animal-loving train driver brought the wild bird to Pfotenhilfe Lochen in Upper Austria and saved his life. The X-ray there revealed that a wing was broken, but it should heal in the coming weeks.
“Pit rest is important now. A control X-ray will be taken in two weeks,’ said Pfotenhilfe boss Johanna Stadler. The Wildlife Sanctuary takes in hundreds of injured or orphaned wildlife each year.
