A French journalist has been killed in a rocket attack in Ukraine. As the AFP news agency announced on Tuesday, video journalist Arman Soldin was killed in the afternoon near the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, where fighting had raged for months.
The French agency wrote on Twitter about the death of his journalist: “All our thoughts go out to his family and loved ones.” According to Reporters Without Borders (RSF), six journalists were murdered in Ukraine last year. This year, before Soldin, another reporter died on duty in the Russian-attacked country.
France wants to classify Wagner as a terrorist organization
Regardless of the current tragedy surrounding Soldin, the French parliament wants the Russian mercenary group Wagner to be classified as a terrorist organization at EU level for its execution of civilians. The National Assembly unanimously passed a corresponding resolution on Tuesday. The non-binding document called on the French government to use diplomatic channels to classify Yevgeny Prigozhin’s forces as a terrorist organization.
The Wagner squad is suspected of torturing and killing civilians in Ukraine, as well as in Syria and several African countries. In April, the EU placed Wagner on the list of persons and organizations sanctioned for “active participation in the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine”. In February, the Wagner group was already on another sanctions list for human rights violations and ‘destabilizing’ African countries.
