At least six people have been killed in Nicaragua by a swarm of bees. They had fallen into a bus from a slope on which were beehives.
Local media reported that the accident happened in the municipality of San Sebastián de Yali, in the northwest of the country. Beehives were set up there to extract honey from a coffee plantation. When a bus burst into the middle of the swarm, the animals attacked the passengers. At least six people between the ages of 8 and 84 were killed. Some of them have been stabbed more than 300 times.
help difficult
At least 14 other people require treatment in hospitals, including a four-year-old child. According to media reports, residents tried to help the 45 passengers, but the large number of bees prevented them from doing so. Only the emergency services could advance.
African American honey bees are said to be aggressive. For example, in the past, stabbing deaths were reported from Brazil. They are kept in some countries because they cope well with the tropical climate and produce more honey than their European counterparts.
