“The 18-year-old has been charged with murder and attempted burglary,” said Ulrike Breiteneder of the Linz public prosecutor’s office. The charges had already been served and the defendant had 14 days to appeal. Therefore, the charges are not yet legally valid and no date has yet been set for the jury trial. The attempted burglary came about because the suspect wanted to break into a farm shop the day before the murder and was filmed by a surveillance camera.
“Dangerous” according to opinion
In addition to a prison sentence, the public prosecutor’s office has also requested that the 18-year-old be admitted to a forensic therapeutic center because, according to the expert opinion, the 18-year-old is considered dangerous. He was diagnosed with Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
The suspect and his victim had visited a casino in the border area with the Czech Republic together. After a while in Sternsteinwald, he wanted to go back to the casino and continue playing to finally “hit the jackpot”, but his girlfriend didn’t want to. When they both got out of the car, things escalated, according to the indictment: The 18-year-old started hitting the 19-year-old. According to the indictment, the alleged perpetrator used two snow sticks to hit and stab the student. She tried to flee in her car, but got stuck in a snowdrift.

According to the autopsy, the victim died of internal and external bleeding.
The 18-year-old suspect is seen as a “young adult” and therefore falls under juvenile criminal law. Therefore, he cannot receive a life sentence. He faces ten to twenty years in prison.
