After fires occurred twice a night in the Deutschlandsberg region more than a week ago, police were now able to identify a 19-year-old as the arsonist. The young West Styrian would also be responsible for numerous other material damages. Motive: Boredom…
Two fires in the Deutschlandsberg area on the night of March 19 caused enormous damage and required a large number of fire brigades. First, about 50 bales of straw were on fire in a meadow in Groß St. Florian. A short time later, a large carport and six vehicles burned down completely in Deutschlandsberg. Damage: several hundred thousand euros!
Motive: boredom
It soon became clear to the police: both fires had been deliberately set. As the state police have now announced, a 19-year-old from Western Styria was identified as a fire devil. After several hours of interrogation, the young man confessed. He could not name a motive; according to the police it was probably boredom.
But that’s not all: police suspect the 19-year-old could be responsible for around 20 other crimes. He is suspected of damaging several buildings and vehicles in the region and of breaking into a farm shop.
The teenager is also said to have stolen license plates and mounted them on other vehicles, which he then drove significantly too fast.
He is also said to have endangered other road users and, among other things, thrown stones at oncoming traffic. In this context, the police are still looking for victims or witnesses.
