After three years of marriage, Prime Minister Sanna Marin is getting a divorce

Date:

They were together for a total of 19 years, but only three of those years in the so-called “safe haven” of marriage. It’s over now, 37-year-old outgoing Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin and her husband Markus Räikkönen said in their stories on Instagram on Wednesday.

Marin and Raikkonen got married in the summer of 2020 after being together for about 16 years.

They met when they were 18-year-old college students and have a daughter who is now five years old. They are thankful for 19 years together and their beloved daughter, they wrote. “We remain best friends, close and loving parents.”

Youngest prime minister in the world
Despite winning, Marin and her Social Democrats only came third in Finland’s parliamentary elections in early April. Conservative winner Petteri Orpo is currently leading government negotiations to form a centre-right coalition. Marin will remain in office until the new government is formed. She came to power at the end of 2019 as the youngest prime minister in the world at the time.

“Coolest Prime Minister in Europe”
Last summer, Marin caused a stir with party videos circulating online. One of them showed her dancing up close with Finnish pop star Olavi Uusivirta at a club in Helsinki. As a result, a discussion arose in Finland about the Prime Minister’s public behavior and a possible violation of her official duties.

However, many of Marin’s compatriots reacted calmly to their prime minister’s behavior. “The prime minister can get drunk,” Elli Kojola from Tampere told radio station Yle. “But she also has to be careful how she presents herself. Someone always sees you.”
