Members of the climate activist group “Extinction Rebellion” colored several fountains in Vorarlberg green on Wednesday evening. They want to protest against the “false climate protection” of the state government. According to the activists, the paint used is non-toxic and harmless to the environment.
In total, more than 20 fountains in Vorarlberg are currently glowing bright green. These include the Nepomuk Fountain in Bludenz, the Cathedral Fountain in Feldkirch, the pool of water in the square of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in front of the Festspielhaus under Gottfried Berchtold’s artwork, and the Gütle Fountain in Dornbirn.
Still no action taken
In a press release, the activists are going to court with the Vorarlberg state government. Although they declared a climate emergency in 2019, the climate protectionists criticize that they have taken no action so far. Instead, “fossil” large-scale projects such as the tunnel spider in Feldkirch would be realized.
The activists used uranine for the green color effect. The dye is completely harmless to humans and the environment. The wells would also not be affected. Due to the natural UV radiation, the color effect will disappear within a few hours, guaranteed “Extinction Rebellion”.
