Entire Art Collection – Treasure worth millions found on oligarch hunt

Date:

On the yacht of the Russian oligarch Farkhad Achmedov, researchers have found an art treasure that is said to be worth several million euros. The 67-year-old owner has been on the EU sanctions list for a year because of the Russian attack on Ukraine. He would not have reported “substantial assets” in Germany – the art collection now seized could serve as evidence or even be confiscated by a court.

The ship was already searched on 3 May. The General Prosecutor’s Office and the Federal Investigation Department then stated that “an entrepreneur from the Russian Federation was under investigation on suspicion of violating the law on foreign trade”. The yacht was specifically searched for expensive art or other items of high value. According to information from the news portal “spiegel.de”, it concerns an art collection and other works of art with an estimated total value of several million euros.

According to information from the German news agency, it concerns the luxury yacht “Luna”, which the BKA assigns to the Russian businessman Farkhad Akhmedov. The 67-year-old has been on a list of people subject to EU sanctions for the Russian attack on Ukraine for a year.

Assets not disclosed to authorities
The entrepreneur is suspected of violating the obligation to report to the Deutsche Bundesbank and the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control after being included on the EU sanctions list. From a legal point of view, Thursday’s action was the continuation of the May 3 search.

The “Luna” had already been detained by the authorities in Hamburg in the spring of last year. The 115 meter long ship was last moored in the shipyard harbor of the Hamburg shipbuilder Blohm+Voss, which belongs to the Lürssen Group.
