“Bobi” is over 30! – The oldest dog in the world had a big birthday party

Date:

“Bobi” from Portugal is the oldest dog in the world – his owner threw him a big birthday party for his 31st birthday. 100 friends and fans – some even from abroad – came to celebrate the four-legged friend.

Owner Leonel Costa (28) and “Bobi” live in the village of Conqueiros in the middle of Portugal – the day of honor of the fur nose was celebrated there. The dog was born on May 11, 1992 – this date was confirmed by the City of Leiria Veterinary Service and the State Pet Database SIAC. Since the beginning of the year, “Bobi” also has an entry in the Guinness Book of Records as “oldest living dog”.

The male is a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo – specimens of these purebred dogs normally live to be 14 years old. His mother was several years older: “Gira” was 18 years old.

Dog has never been on a leash
“Bobi’s” owner Costa believes he knows the secret to his pet’s advanced age. The “quiet, peaceful environment away from the cities” is probably the most important factor, he explained in a video. In addition, he was never chained or on a leash and was always free to move. The dog evokes many memories in its owner: When I look at him, I think of the people who were part of our family and are sadly gone, like my father, my brother or my grandparents, who have already left this world.”

In addition to the many human friends who came especially to his birthday party, the dog also has many four-legged friends. In his old age he spends a lot of time in the garden with the family’s four cats because he can no longer walk very well. On the other hand, he was very active and loved to explore forests and fields.
