A student in the US survived a violent shark attack in Florida and received 19 stitches.
13-year-old Ella Reid will remember this day at sea for the rest of her life: the schoolgirl enjoying the sun at a jetty on the beach in Fort Pierce, USA, sitting in the shallows. But suddenly she was snapped out of her daydreams and cried out in pain: a shark had bitten her hip!
Hit the shark
“The shark was so strong,” the teen told WPTV. In a reflex, she hit the predatory fish, which she described as a six-foot bull shark. The animal attacker retreated for a moment, but then quickly swam back to the student. Ella continues: “He wouldn’t leave me alone, so I had to keep fighting back.”
The screams also alarmed the 13-year-old’s mother, who ran to her daughter. Although Ella was able to save herself on the shore, she was covered in blood and in shock. The doctors eventually documented bites in the stomach, arm, fingers and also in the knee. The wounds were closed with 19 sutures. Unbelievable, but true: Ella can smile again and immediately wants to put her feet in the sea again.
