Is this the solution to the doctor shortage? A ‘Krone’ site visit at the Salvida Health Center in the parish of Kirchham, where 45 professionals live under one roof. The administration is handled centrally, partly because of this there is more time for treatments.
The Salvida Health Center is located in Kirchham (district Gmunden) since August 2022. “Patient satisfaction is huge,” assures general manager and physician Dominik Bammer (33) to “Krone”.
What makes Salvida so special?
They try to eliminate the shortcomings that plague the public health system, such as too much bureaucracy for doctors. “Doctors really only care about the patient. We take care of everything else, such as making appointments, invoicing, cleaning, materials,” says the former player of the national handball team, who also studied economics after studying medicine. The synergies and short distances in the home are used to treat patients. 45 doctors and therapists and 28 employees work under one roof. In addition to a group practice for family medicine – itself ordained in Bammer – there are physiotherapists, masseurs, midwives, beauticians, psychologists, dentists and dieticians. In general practice, 100 to 160 people are treated in the morning.
The operation takes three days
There is also a medicine cabinet, a laboratory and a day treatment with its own entrance in the basement. “We work three days a week. With varicose veins you sometimes have to wait two years in hospitals, with us you receive high-quality and fast care and you can go home the same day,” explains Bammer. In this case, equipment and nurses are again provided by Salvida, the doctor “only” has to operate.
Further locations are planned
In fact, the “mini-hospital” is so well received that other locations are already being planned. “Construction will start in the Mühlviertel from autumn. There are also five other investigations underway,” says Bammer, who also wants to declare war on the shortage of skilled workers. “We don’t wait for the future, we shape it. You can also do your educational or professional internship with us.”
