Only one day after the fatal accident on the S4 between Sigleß and Mattersburg (the “Krone” reported) another fatal traffic accident occurred in Burgenland. Several fire brigades and emergency helicopters were deployed in Horitschon. An emergency vehicle collided with a car turning left on its way to the crime scene. Two people died and three were injured, some seriously.
It was just before 2 p.m. when a Red Cross ambulance was on its way to an emergency in Ritzing. While the experienced assistant driver overtook two vehicles in front, the vehicle in front suddenly swerved to turn left – despite emergency braking, the Red Cross driver was unable to avoid a collision. The force of the impact caused the car to crash into a fence wall.
Great effort for helpers
In addition to other rescue vehicles and the executive branch, the Horitschon, Neckenmarkt and Oberpullendorf fire brigades and the two ÖAMTC emergency medical helicopters Christophorus 3 and Christophorus 33 from Wiener Neustadt (Lower Austria) were also alerted.
Couple died in accident
On site, the emergency services gave a terrible picture. The driver (69) of the car suddenly swerving to the left and his wife (66) – both from Horitschon – died despite resuscitation measures on site.
ambulance crew seriously injured
The driver of the rescue vehicle’s three-man crew suffered minor injuries, while an EMT and an EMT were seriously injured. “Our slightly injured colleague was taken to Oberpullendorf hospital by the rescue service on the ground and the other colleague and colleagues were flown by helicopters from the emergency doctor to Eisenstadt or Wiener Neustadt. Our thoughts are with the injured and the survivors of the deceased” , said a Red Cross spokesman for “Krone”.
