“Of course, the city of Linz tries to create alternative offers as soon as possible, but this sudden closure poses particular challenges to the city of Linz given the tense personnel situation and the required space capacities,” emphasizes the responsible officer, SP City Vice Karin Hörzing. “We are therefore currently investigating what opportunities there are for us in municipal facilities,” she adds.
33 children affected by closure
Hörzing was told on Tuesday that the private daycare “Brother and Sister” had to stop working. The association currently manages two crèche groups and a kindergarten group in Bahrgasse. 16 children in the nursery and another 17 children in the kindergarten are said to have been affected.
Serious sanitary and pedagogical shortcomings
The reason for the closure is a recovery procedure. Here is the statement of the education department of the state of Upper Austria: “In the present case, the education department found, among other things, serious hygienic and pedagogical shortcomings on the basis of an on-site inspection, which was carried out after a complaint was lodged. Immediately after the inspection by the supervisory authority sent an order to rectify deficiencies to the legal entity in November. They now have until June 15 to remedy the deficiencies identified and bring the situation into compliance with the law. The closure at the end of May is a decision of the legal entity, which has private contracts with the parents about the care of the children.”
