The arrested MEP Andrea Cozzolino can be extradited to Belgium. A court in Naples has now given the green light to possible involvement in the EU corruption scandal.
The court thus accepted a corresponding request from the Brussels public prosecutor’s office. The MEP’s lawyers have appealed the extradition to the Supreme Court in Rome. The court now has 30 days to respond to the case. Until then, Cozzolino cannot be extradited, it said.
The 60-year-old is accused of taking money from third countries such as Qatar or Morocco to influence decisions in the EU parliament in their favour. He denies that. Cozzolino has been under house arrest in Naples since February.
