ELA announces mobilizations in Bizkaia construction to demand wage increases

Date:

This Friday, the 26th, mobilizations will begin in the sector to denounce the situation in which workers find themselves, with no planned salary increases for the years 2023 and 2024.

DE A begins this Friday, May 26, mobilizations in the sector of Biscay construction to denounce the situation in which its employees find themselves after the signing of the agreement in 2021 with “salary increases that add up to zerofor the years 2023 and 2024.

On this first day of protest, the ELA delegates gather in front of the headquarters in Bilbao of the employers’ organization ASCOBI, which signed an agreement in 2021 with the CCOO and UGT that will be in force for four years, but “without agreement on the salary increase for the years 2023 and 2024“.

ELA warned at the time that “it was incomprehensible to agree to an agreement where the salary increases of the past two years add up to zero” and now the employer “now refuses to agree to an increase in line with the increase in the CPI“, so that the workers “impoverish themselves by not having a raise”.

In his opinion, “it is negligent that the above-mentioned unions, in a provincial agreement affecting thousands of people, agreed to such a long term without agreeing on salary increases” while, in addition, the construction companies of Bizkaia “have made a profit for many years“.

Similarly, ELA has denounced that the terms of employment are “systematically violated, where the contract and labor law are not applied unilaterally”, and has warned that “these violations mainly occur among those who work in subcontractors”, who are “a very important part forms of “of a sector that”It lasts for years without reducing hours“.

For this reason, the Assembly of Construction Workers of Bizkaia of ELA has decided to launch mobilizations to “denounce the situation in which the employers’ organization and the unions that signed the agreement have left the construction workers of Bizkaia”.
