Up to 135 calls – Stalking: When love goes to the dock

Date:

Love makes you blind – and in some cases even leads you to criminal court. Also two defendants at the Vienna Regional Court. Who couldn’t be more different: a 60-year-old divorced father and an ambitious 21-year-old student. The accusation is the same: stalking…

“She discussed her marital problems with me. We have developed fantasies that she is getting divorced,” the – already divorced – family man said in the dock. But after months of exchanging messages with the married woman and seeing her repeatedly at the children’s school, the 43-year-old changed her mind. thoughts.

60-year-old ‘just wanted to help’
The suspect is convinced that the woman no longer wanted a divorce and that this was not her own will. ‘She can’t help it. She is mentally ill,” the 60-year-old repeats over and over. So he would have seen it as his job to do it for her – although no further contact was desired.

That is why he wrote to the e-mail address of her husband’s workplace – which was accessible to all employees – wild accusations: he had raped his wife in marriage and also deliberately infected her with Corona. The manager is also a Freemason member and would take company money. “Thank God it didn’t cause any professional problems. But it was extreme and extremely stressful,” the witness said in court. In addition, the 60-year-old engaged in a “real power struggle” with him on the playground – captured on two videos.

The Viennese also contacted the woman again and again: “Come on, stop that hassle…! Come back to me.” Only a restraining order helped, and now a ruling from the Vienna Regional Court: the 12-month suspended sentence is not final, as the 60-year-old does not confess to ongoing persecution and therefore does not accept the sentence.

Student wanted to save relationship – with the wrong means
A 21-year-old also wanted to win back her great love. In July, she separated from her boyfriend – amicably, as she says. After that she called her ex 135 times (!) a day. According to the complaint, the student would have visited the young man at the doctor, physiotherapy and ice hockey training. “The point was that I wanted to save the relationship,” said the Lower Austrian.

According to the prosecutor, she would have created fake profiles on social networks. The contact would not have bothered her ex-boyfriend, the 21-year-old claims. She wants to be able to prove this with chat messages, after which he would even have suggested a trip to the thermal baths at Christmas. So it has been postponed.
