In the past week, two motorcyclists, a small truck driver, a motorist and a senior citizen mobile home driver have been killed in traffic accidents.
On Sunday, May 21, 2023, a serious traffic accident occurred in the district of Lilienfeld, Lower Austria, in which a motorcyclist was killed. The 61-year-old drove his motorcycle in the middle of the road, resulting in a head-on collision with an oncoming motorcycle handlebar that also drove in the middle of the road.
The 61-year-old died at the scene of the accident from his serious injuries, the 47-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries. A road user was killed in an accident last weekend.
Last week, four people died on state road B and one on state road L. Two road deaths were to be regretted in Lower Austria and one in Upper Austria, in Salzburg and in Vorarlberg.
In three cases the probable main causes of the accident were carelessness or distraction and in one case inappropriate speed and insufficient safety distance. One fatal victim was a foreigner.
From January 1 to May 21, 2023, there were 120 deaths on the Austrian road network (provisional figure). In the comparative period of 2022 there were 140 and in 2021 96.
