Despite the red light – collision: Alkolenker (84) rammed woman and child

Date:

Good luck had an 8-year-old boy and a 31-year-old on Monday. A drunk driver ignored a red traffic light and collided with the two pedestrians at the zebra crossing in Spittal an der Drau. But instead of stopping and helping, the alcohol driver fled.

When the green light came on, a 43-year-old father and his two children (8 and 11) crossed the pedestrian crossing on the B99 at Burgplatz in Spittal an der Drau. A 31-year-old woman was approaching them from the other side of the street when suddenly a car failed to stop despite the red traffic light and a collision occurred.

The 31-year-old and the 8-year-old son were hit by the car. “The 8-year-old was thrown to the ground by the impact, but was able to get up again a few seconds later,” the police said. The 31-year-old was hit on the left knee by the bumper, but was able to return to the sidewalk on his own.

Alkolenker fled
Instead of getting out and helping the injured, the driver of the car stopped abruptly, pointed something out of the vehicle, and then fled. “Only the license plate number of those involved could be noted,” says the police. The officials immediately started looking for the fugitive, who was eventually found at his registered address.

“The alcohol test conducted there showed that the 84-year-old man from the Spittal an der Drau district was moderately drunk,” the officials report. To determine the exact alcohol content, he was asked to undergo an alcohol test. “This was denied,” it said.

The 84-year-old has now lost his driver’s license, is on trial for several administrative offenses and the Public Prosecution Service will also handle the case. The two injured were lucky: the eight-year-old sustained some abrasions, the 31-year-old had to go to hospital because of her knee injury.
