In the early hours of Tuesday, a bear was found near the Schwarzach-St. Veit was hit by a train and killed in Salzburg’s Pongau. The animal remained dead between the rails of the Taubernbahn. According to the first information, it is a brown bear, the state media center reports.
The train driver immediately reported the collision with the animal to the police. Hubert Stock, the state representative for bears and wolves, was on his way to Schwarzach in the morning to take DNA samples to clarify the origin of the animal. Stock is in contact with the Landesjägerschaft to determine the next steps.
According to the Landesjägerschaft, the details of the accident are not yet known. The animal is currently being removed from the tracks.
