The 39-year-old from Linz completed a degree in mathematics at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz (JKU) after graduating from high school. According to psychiatrist Adelheid Kastner, he has above-average intelligence and was considered almost brilliant in his field. But at the age of 19, he was diagnosed with “paranoid schizophrenia” that can only be treated with medication. But he didn’t think so.
Alien voices
He heard alien voices and was convinced that the secret services, in collaboration with professors from the University of Linz, had planted a chip in his head. He traveled to Japan to have it removed and was disappointed when the doctors found nothing there. In 2017, he stole a couple’s car with a loaded shotgun because he wanted to flee to Russia with it. He then received psychiatric care for five years, but then stopped taking his medication and on February 28 of this year, in a frenzied state, attacked a professor on the Linz university campus with a hammer. The 56-year-old suffered a cut and two broken ribs.
time to think about it
On Wednesday, the Linz regional court ordered that the 39-year-old mentally ill be hospitalized in a closed forensic unit due to the predicted danger. The person concerned has asked for reflection time, so the decision is not yet final.
