The trial of ex-castle actor Florian Teichtmeister, accused of possessing tens of thousands of child abuse files, is approaching. As the spokesperson for the Vienna Regional Court, Christoph Zonsics-Kral, announced, the results of the investigations ordered by the responsible judge have reached the court. “They have already been brought to the attention of the prosecution and the defense,” said Zonsics-Kral.
The trial against Teichtmeister must therefore take place in the foreseeable future. There is no concrete date yet, said Zonsics-Kral on Wednesday afternoon. Originally, the mime should have been tried in February, but this date had to be canceled at short notice due to the defendant’s illness. Teichtmeister can now negotiate again. His judge had recently initiated inquiries that he said were essential to clarify jurisdiction and legal classification.
Material on multiple data carriers
The public prosecutor of Vienna has accused Teichtmeister of having received tens of thousands of files depicting abused children and young people between February 2008 and the summer of 2021. According to the indictment, Teichtmeister would have stored the material in question on two smartphones, two laptops, a desktop, three external hard drives, a USB stick and three memory cards. The data was secured and evaluated – but apparently it was not initially clear whether only children or minors appear on the protected files.
The public prosecutor has been investigating Teichtmeister since 2021 and the request for punishment was submitted to the regional court at the end of 2022. The government used the Teichtmeister case to tighten penalties for acquiring, possessing, passing on or trading images of abuse by children and young people. Since retroactive criminal law is prohibited, the actor is no longer affected in the event of a conviction – regardless of when the trial against him takes place.
