Police station evacuated – suspicious letter to Habeck intercepted

A suspicious letter containing an unknown white powder arrived at the electoral office of German Economics Minister Robert Habeck on Wednesday afternoon. An employee of the Green politician immediately took the program to the police. This led to a large-scale operation.

It was not clear at first what kind of powder it was. Due to the suspicious content, the police called in the fire brigade for help. A laborious effort followed. Firefighters in special suits and gas masks recovered the envelope. The area is closed for security reasons. According to preliminary information, no one was injured. The operation took almost three hours.

Investigations are underway
After research, dangerous chemical and radioactive substances have been ruled out, a police spokeswoman said on Thursday evening. It is believed to be fine sand. However, it is not yet clear whether the powder contains biological substances. The investigation is still ongoing, police said.
