The wolf pack in the Styrian Tierpark Herberstein is growing: five arctic wolves saw the light of day a month ago and are now not afraid to present themselves to the public.
Baby boom in Herberstein: This spring saw the birth of a tapir, female bison “Diana”, kangaroo “Jumpy” and an entire nursery with pygmy goats. Now there are five little arctic wolves. After a litter of four last year, the alpha couple “Bjelle” and “Herbert” can look forward to a fluffy quintet this year. The five puppies spent the first few weeks in the den, now they explore the large outdoor enclosure under the care of the three big sisters.
The Arctic Wolf’s native home is the Canadian Arctic Islands and Greenland. The brown-grey coat turns beige in the first year of life and the animals do not get their snow-white coat until they are adults. At the commented feeding, visitors can get up close and personal with the extended family every Sunday at 2pm.
