Suspicious vehicle – bomb alarm in Tyrol triggers large-scale police crackdown

Date:

Bomb alert Thursday morning in Patsch in the Tyrolean district of Innsbruck-Land: The driver of a van called the police and stated that there was probably a bomb in his vehicle. The area around the van was cordoned off over a large area and houses had to be evacuated. Motorway entrances and exits were also blocked!

Around 08:00, the 28-year-old driver raised the alarm with the police. “He stated that there was probably a bomb in the van he was driving in the Patsch area,” a Krone police spokeswoman said.

Transporter parked in the field
A large-scale police operation began. Several patrols, the harmless service of the Ministry of Interior and special forces moved in. “When the emergency services arrived, the vehicle was parked in a field on the outskirts of Patsch. The motorway entrances and exits were immediately closed. Surrounding homes also had to be evacuated,” the spokeswoman continues.

Explosives experts then began to scrutinize the suspicious vehicle. “However, no dangerous objects were found,” says the spokeswoman.

Mental emergency
When the 28-year-old driver was questioned, no clear motive could be established. He had, however, expressed a suspicion about an acquaintance who apparently wanted to harm him. The driver was in a mental state of distress.

The lockdown was lifted around 10:30 am.
