Ron DeSantis formalizes his candidacy for the White House and becomes Trump’s biggest rival

Date:

The Florida governor has completed all the red tape to compete with Trump for the Republican nomination.

The Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantishas officially announced its candidacy in the Republican Party primary for the United States presidential election, scheduled for November 2024.

In this way, the Republican politician officially enters the US presidential race and becomes the biggest rival of his fellow party member Donald Trump, who is also pursuing the nomination.

Florida’s governor is the favored option among Republican voters in some polls, even ahead of former President Donald Trump, who nevertheless dominates most polls.

DeSantis’ candidacy has been anticipated since his strong run in last November’s election, when he was re-elected governor with a large majority.

Criticism of Trump

In recent months, Trump has publicly criticized him. That same Thursday, the former US president even mocked Florida’s governor, after the technical difficulties that delayed the formal announcement of his candidacy for the White House on Wednesday: “I know Ron. As he made the announcement, he will succeed the country” .

Trump has spared no criticism of the “fatal” launch of the Republican Party’s primary candidacy after the event hosted on Twitter was postponed due to noise issues, in the presence of the platform’s now owner, businessman Elon Musk.
