A 49-year-old Hungarian has died, six other people were seriously injured in a head-on collision on the B 148 near Weng in Upper Austria on Saturday. A van and a car collided.
A 75-year-old man from Kematen am Innbach drove his van on the B 148 (Altheimer Straße) towards Braunau. His 70-year-old wife was in the passenger seat. At the same time, a 51-year-old Hungarian steered his van in the opposite direction. His four Hungarian colleagues – aged 42, 47, 49 and 55 – also drove the car.
I got on the opposite lane
In the Mankham area, the Hungarian ended up on the oncoming lane for unknown reasons, resulting in a head-on collision. After some people involved got trapped in the vehicles, they had to be freed by the fire brigade with the help of hydraulic rescue scissors. A 49-year-old Hungarian suffered such serious injuries that he died on the spot.
The other six participants were all injured in an undetermined or serious degree and were taken to hospitals in Braunau, Ried, Passau, Salzburg and Traunstein. A total of three rescue helicopters and seven rescue and emergency vehicles were deployed. Two emergency medical teams provided first aid to the injured.
Cause still unclear
The B 148 had been closed for about two hours when the accident was recorded. Another following vehicle was also damaged, but the driver was not injured. The cause of the accident has not yet been clarified.
