Drones shot down – “Explosions in Kiev”: killed in air strikes

Date:

Heavy airstrikes in the early hours of the morning have shaken people in the Ukrainian capital. “Explosions in Kiev,” was the short message from Mayor Vitali Klitschko on Sunday morning. According to the city’s military command, air defenses shot down at least 40 drones. According to Klitschko, a 41-year-old man was killed by falling parts and a 35-year-old woman was injured.

The attack came in two waves at dawn on the last Sunday in May, the day the capital celebrates Kiev Day, the anniversary of the city’s official founding 1,541 years ago, according to official Ukrainian sources. This day is usually marked with street festivals, live concerts and exhibitions. Events are also planned this year, albeit on a smaller scale.

attacks increase
According to official information, several districts of Kiev were affected by the night attacks, including the historic district of Pechersk. Kiev is by far the largest city in Ukraine, with a population of about three million. In recent days, Russia has again intensified its attacks in view of the expected Ukrainian counter-offensive.

Russia has been waging a devastating offensive war in Ukraine for more than 15 months. According to Western estimates, the Russian troops suffered heavy casualties and were only able to bring regions in the east and south of the country under their control. Western-backed Ukraine wants to fight until Russian troops are driven out of the occupied territories.
