Balance lost – Tyrol: bushes save fallen climbers

Shock moment for a 53-year-old German on Sunday on the “Huterlaner” via ferrata in the municipality of Schwendau in the Zillertal. The man lost his balance and fell 1.20 meters. But bushes and other via ferratas prevented worse things.

The 53-year-old climbed the via ferrata with his wife and two daughters. “When the man arrived at a bench to rest with a daughter, he wanted to look around for his wife and second daughter, but lost his balance and fell,” police said. But the German managed to hold on to a bush above the abyss.

Through the courageous intervention of other via ferrata climbers, the man was slinged and rescued. The German was not injured and was escorted to the exit by the mountain rescue service.
