A serious traffic accident was reported to the Villach fire brigade at around 7 p.m. on Sunday evening. Two people were trapped in a car and others were injured. Three fire brigades immediately went to the scene on Drautalbundesstraße near the Rennsteiner Bridge in Villach.
Arriving at the scene of the accident, it was determined that two cars had collided directly on the Rennsteiner Bridge. An 85-year-old driver from Liezen came into oncoming traffic for unknown reasons and collided with the car of a 39-year-old from Villach.
The force of the impact injured two people in a car. Four people were injured to an unknown degree.
After first aid from the Red Cross emergency doctor, the four injured were taken by ambulance to the state hospital in Villach.
Wreck recovered from bridge with crane
The wreckage of the accident was recovered by the fire service using a crane and parked safely in a nearby parking lot. The main fire station in Villach with 20 men and six vehicles, as well as the FF Vassach and FF Wollanig were in action. The B100 was completely closed until 9 p.m. for cleanup work.
