China plans to launch its next manned space mission on Tuesday. At 9:31 a.m. local time, the Shenzhou 16 spacecraft will depart from the Jiuquan Cosmodrome in the northwest of the People’s Republic for the now fully operational Tiangong (Heaven’s Palace) space station, China’s space agency announced Monday.
The crew of the starship consists of three taikonauts. Your mission into space is expected to last about five months.
China wants to become a space power
The “Tiangong” space station supports China’s ambitions to become a space power and overtake the great spacefaring nations of the US and Russia.
With their lofty ambitions in space, the Beijing state leadership cares about national prestige, but also about the global technological pioneering role they want to challenge the US. More missions to the Moon and Mars are planned in the medium term.
