A serious accident occurred shortly before noon on the A9, the Pyhrnautobahn, between Kalsdorf and Schachenwald (Graz-Environment district) in the direction of Graz. A pick-up truck was trapped between two trucks in the inland water after another accident. The driver of the van suffered fatal injuries.
The fire service was alerted to an accident on the A9 around 11 a.m. when it crashed again in the backlog. The driver of a delivery van, a 52-year-old woman from the Leibnitz district, was just in line on the emergency lane when the accident happened. Another truck driver (54) saw the backlog too late and rammed the small van. The van was completely crushed. The concrete mixer overturned under the force of the impact and lay on its side next to the center bulkhead.
The firefighters tried to free the victim with the hydraulic rescue device, but all help came too late for the 52-year-old. According to the first information, the driver of the concrete mixer, from the district of Southeastern Styria, was only slightly injured. In addition to the FF Unterpremstätten, the comrades of the FF Zettling and Werndorf were also deployed.
Traffic was diverted from the autobahn at Kalsdorf. The backlog was huge. The A9 was lifted around 5 p.m.
