Tragic case of animal abuse during Whitsun weekend in Graz: Rottweiler “Destino” apparently died after licking rat poison on the dog pasture in Gösting. The FPÖ is offering a reward of 500 euros for relevant information.
“It feels so empty without him,” says Jan C. (21). The man from Graz is not yet over the loss of his two-year-old dog “Destino”. What happened on Whit Sunday at a dog park in Graz-Gösting was too tragic.
In the early afternoon, C. went on a trip to the Dechant Binder facility with his family, including the infant daughter and friends who also have a dog. “The weather was great, the dogs were playing, we stood fence by fence and kept an eye on them,” says the owner.
“Destino” died four minutes before arriving at the doctor’s office
However, after two hours, “Destino” suddenly started beeping. “He lay down in the shade. He was shaking and his mouth started foaming.” The 21-year-old immediately went to get help, but on Sunday it took him a while to find a doctor whose practice was open. Finally, the family hurries to the Thalerhof veterinary clinic. “Four minutes before we got there, he died.”
The vet suspected rat poison as the cause. “Now I’m waiting for his urn.” The man from Graz has not yet gone to the police, he was “too exhausted”, he says.
500 euro „premium“
To catch the animal torturer, the FPÖ of Graz announced a “bonus” of 500 euros on Tuesday. Anyone who provides relevant information to apprehend the animal abuser gets the money. “The sooner you apprehend such malicious personalities and hold them accountable, the sooner you can assure your loyal companions that they are safe again,” says city festival manager Dominik Hausjell.
And Graz animal welfare councilor Claudia Schönbacher (KFG) says: “I ask all dog owners to be careful, keep their eyes open and walk around before visiting a dog park and to report any suspicion to the police immediately.”
