In a raid on a financing network of the terrorist militia Islamic State (IS) in Germany on Wednesday morning, more than 1,000 agents from the federal criminal investigation department, the criminal investigation agencies of the countries involved and the police were deployed. In total, more than 100 objects were searched, the German federal prosecutor’s office announced. The prosecutors general’s office is responsible.
According to the announcement, seven suspects were arrested: in Ulm (Baden-Württemberg), in the district of Neuwied (Rhineland-Palatinate), in Bremen and in the district of Heinsberg and in the district of Rheinisch-Bergisch (both North Rhine-Westphalia).
“Gathering Money”
They would have been involved in the network as financial intermediaries. “By collecting donations and forwarding them to IS, they played a central role within the funding network,” it said.
Decision on detention
The men and women – mostly German nationals – were to be brought before the investigating judge of the Federal Court of Justice on Wednesday and Thursday. He decides if they should be taken into custody. The detectives accuse other suspects of making money payments to the financing network in favor of the IS.
