Protest in the Vatican – man undresses on the altar of St. Peter’s Basilica

Date:

Jessa good, what is a naked person doing at the altar?! That’s what the surprised visitors to St. Peter’s Basilica must have thought on Thursday evening. A man climbed onto the main altar of the basilica and completely stripped naked. The reason: he wanted to protest against the war in Ukraine.

The incident happened shortly before the closure of St. Peter’s Basilica. Some people captured the scene and shared photos and videos of it on social media. Both the overseers of the basilica and some gendarmes immediately intervened, took the man away and accompanied him to the gendarmerie for identification and an initial interrogation.

The man is said to be suffering from depression
He was then handed over to the Italian police. The perpetrator would be someone suffering from severe depression. He emphasized that he suffered for the Ukrainian children who lost their lives under Russian bombing.

The man had painted a message on his back calling for the rescue of children in Ukraine. The Vatican said the man also inflicted cuts on his body.

The car grows in the Vatican
Two weeks earlier there was already excitement in Vatican City: a car had driven through a gate. The car reached the eastern entrance gate Sant’Anna of the Vatican and broke through the two control gates of the Pontifical Swiss Guard and the Vatican Gendarmerie Corps at high speed. It was rejected by the Swiss Guard.

After a maneuver it turned back and ran into the Vatican. In an attempt to stop the car, one of the Vatican’s forces fired his pistol into the front tires of the vehicle. Although he hit the vehicle on the left front fender, the car continued to move. The car reached the interior behind the gate and the Cortile di San Damaso, the central courtyard of the Apostolic Palace. The driver got out without being asked and was apprehended by the emergency services.
