To avoid punishment – Stolen license plates mounted for lawn

Date:

A 38-year-old from Obritzberg-Rust in the district of St. Pölten (Lower Austria) likes to drive too fast. To avoid the justified punishment, he simply regularly sticks stolen license plates on his car.

A police officer on his motorcycle had a good feeling when he stopped a vehicle in the Krems district. During the check, the officer discovered that the license plates on the car had been reported stolen in Vienna in autumn 2022. The 38-year-old driver does not want to have been the thief.

Rims against license plates
Instead, the man from the St. Pölten district told the officer a curious story. He got the bars in a barter transaction. He gave used rims to a Viennese, in return he got the license plates.

A second pair in the trunk
The next surprise came during a check in the Obritzberger’s car. There were more plates there – namely the ones that actually belong to the 38-year-old’s car. Because the vehicle was actually correctly registered for traffic.

Mounted for the lawn
But why is he riding with the others? The man voluntarily answered this question to the police officer. He is a notorious speed demon. Whenever he really wants to hit the accelerator, he pre-mounts the stolen license plates to protect himself from fines. “I’ve been flashed more than once without getting a penalty,” he said candidly.

Weapons have also been found
But now the man won’t leave. Withholding documents can result in a prison sentence of up to two years. In addition, pepper spray and two combat knives were found in the man’s vehicle – even though there is a strict weapon ban against him. In addition, the district will check whether any open violations have been committed with the stolen plaques.
