Iran unveiled its first hypersonic missile on Tuesday. The missile named “Fattah” with a speed of 13 to 15 Mach (16,000 to 18,500 kilometers per hour) could hit targets up to 1,400 kilometers away, the official news agency IRNA reported.
It is said that “numerous maneuvers” can be performed inside and outside Earth’s atmosphere. President Ebrahim Raisi also attended the presentation by the Revolutionary Guards Air Force.
The West sees Iran’s military and missile program as a threat to the Middle East and the Gulf region. The leadership of the Islamic country rejects this. Tehran claims the program is for defense and civilian purposes. However, there are repeated threats against Israel from Iran. Many Iranian politicians deny the country’s right to exist. Israel sees this as an existential threat.
Completion of a “generative leap“
Iranian state television explicitly pointed out that the “Fattah” could not be intercepted even by the most modern US and Israeli defense systems. The completion of the rocket is a “generator jump”.
Russia also possesses hypersonic missiles, which are used in the offensive war against Ukraine. However, according to their own statements, the Ukrainian armed forces have already managed to intercept such missiles before hitting them using Western defense systems.
