Thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, especially south of Graz, broke the camel’s back on Tuesday: streams burst their banks, roads and pastures flooded and cellars flooded. The fire brigade had to turn out for dozens of operations.
The entire Ferbersbach flooded the streets in Hausmannstätten last Tuesday night! After the heavy rain in the afternoon, the water level rose more than two meters for the first time in more than a decade and overflowed its banks, reports the Hausmannstätten volunteer fire brigade. The production park in the village was also heavily flooded and must remain closed on Wednesday until further notice.
Vasoldsberg and Empersdorf were equally affected
The Hausmannstätten firefighters, together with 51 other Florianis, previously traveled to 30 operational addresses in Vasoldsberg, which is not far from there. There, too, meadows and forecourts of buildings were completely flooded, after the rain of the past few weeks, the ground hardly absorbed any water.
A similar picture emerged in Empersdorf, where the fire brigade had to contend with flooded cellars.
Just a short breath
Even further south, in Wildon, the Florianis were on duty for four hours until a total of 10 p.m.: “In Wurzing, some houses had to be protected with sandbags against the water masses that came down from the mountain,” the fire brigade writes. in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
This Wednesday morning, the fire brigades can take a deep breath, but around noon the first showers are expected again in Eastern Styria and rain and thunderstorms are expected again in the afternoon. Only a few showers are expected in the west of Upper Styria.
