Bankruptcy after sale – hurry to Kika / Leiner – wait two hours

Date:

The bustle after the bankruptcy: Bargain hunters in the Kika branch in Saalfelden caused a two-hour wait at the checkout. Due to the announced bankruptcy, the furniture company started sales on Friday.

“I waited a total of two hours,” says Christoph David Trenker. On Friday morning he went to the Kika in Saalfelden to buy garden furniture. “The whole parking lot is full. So much has never happened there before,” says Trenker. The bargain hunter compares the situation to the start of the corona crisis. “It’s like in 2020, when everyone rushed to the supermarkets.”

As reported, the branches in Saalfelden and St. Johann will have to close at the end of July. “Now they want to get rid of it as much as possible. Everything is 30 or 40 percent,” says Michael Huber of the union. A total of 23 branches will be closed and 1900 employees released (see graph below)

Despite the planned bankruptcy, Kika/Leiner promises that all vouchers will remain valid. That should be possible because the new owner, Hermann Wieser, will take responsibility for it through his companies, a Kika/Leiner spokesperson said on Friday. Because in the context of the insolvency estate, vouchers should not be made better than other claims, lawyer Michael Poduschka recalls.

The receivables also include down payments for future deliveries. However, as part of the follow-up plan, it must be ensured that all outstanding orders are executed and the advances made are settled in full, according to the spokesperson. This way, customers would not lose their deposits.
