WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange could soon be extradited to the US There he risks up to 175 years in prison.
Setback for Julian Assange: A judge in London’s High Court has rejected two requests filed to appeal his extradition, court documents show.
The danger of the 51-year-old founder of the disclosure platform actually being transferred to the United States (see video above) is “more real now than ever before,” according to a statement from the organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF). His wife, Stella Assange, said the Australian will reapply to the Supreme Court. This will be judged by two judges at a public hearing.
Secret material stolen and released
“We remain optimistic that we will prevail and that Julian will not be extradited to the US,” Assange said. There he is tried for espionage. Assange is accused of stealing and publishing secret materials from US military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan along with whistleblower Chelsea Manning, endangering the lives of US informants.
Supporters, on the other hand, see him as a courageous journalist who exposed war crimes.
