Dramatic prosecution – police stopped smugglers with 18 refugees

Date:

In the fight against illegal migration, there was again persecution on the A3 to Lower Austria. A van with 18 refugees quickly took off, many of them children.

The next high-profile case of illegal migration occurred on Friday. On the southeastern highway (A3) near Müllendorf, police officers noticed a suspicious minivan around 11:30 am. The officers followed. The driver of the black vehicle immediately accelerated. At a speed of between 160 and 170 km/h, he repeatedly tried to push the patrol car against the guardrail. Thanks to quick responses, the officers were able to prevent an accident.

Police officers had to fire warning shots
The spectacular escape continued as far as Pottendorf in the Lower Austrian district of Baden. There the tow truck drove down the A3 and stopped abruptly shortly afterwards. The suspect behind the wheel jumped out of the vehicle and ran towards Burgenland. Several warning shots were fired into the ground.

The next moment the fled suspect finally reached the end of the road. He could be found by officers of a patrol from Wulkaprodersdorf. The Turk (37) was arrested without resistance. A possible accomplice who was with the refugees in the abandoned minivan was also taken. He is accused of acting as the driver as an accomplice of a gang of smugglers and collecting a lot of money.

The 18 refugees – women, men and eight children – who were on the nine-seater bus were taken to a police detention center. “Fortunately, everyone was unharmed,” said the emergency services. Investigations are underway.
