A 44-year-old German who fell into the Inn River near Wernstein in Upper Austria on Thursday evening had a guardian angel. A compatriot paddled towards him in a kayak and rescued the victim on the bank.
Several residents heard cries for help on the banks of the Inn in Wernstein am Inn around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday. When police arrived, a 44-year-old German was already being treated by first responders.
Cause of accident unclear
The man was probably cycling along the Innweg towards Passau and for unknown reasons fell into the river Inn at a previously unknown place.
Wrapped in blankets
A 59-year-old German living in Wernstein was able to rescue the victim from the Inn in his kayak. Those waiting on shore wrapped him in blankets and nursed him until rescuers arrived. The 44-year-old was taken to the Passau Clinic.
