Escaped in Styria, imprisoned in Vienna: A 51-year-old was arrested in the capital after attacking a passerby with a Stanley knife. The man had previously fled from a prison in Styria.
According to the police, the runaway threatened a 51-year-old woman in the Mariahilf district of Vienna on Thursday. His weapon: a box cutter. His loot: cash, a mobile phone and some coins. The authorities then began “intensive searches”.
The alleged perpetrator was arrested a few hours after the crime. The murder weapon and loot were secured. Shortly afterwards it was announced that the man was already wanted. According to the police, the prisoner escaped from Graz-Karlau prison in Styria about two weeks ago.
Refugees could have committed other crimes
The 51-year-old Austrian “did not return after a doctor’s visit”. Investigators suspect that the man may be responsible for other crimes during this period. Another robbery has already been assigned to him. The 51-year-old is in jail again.
The Austrian has multiple criminal records and was last sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2011, including for aggravated robbery, burglary, property damage and withholding documents. He had already served most of his sentence, with two and a half years left.
